Tai Chi Tai Chi works almost as well as strenuous exercise at lowering blood pressure. In a recent study, six weeks of doing this Chinese system of slow, gentle movement on a daily basis cut systolic blood pressure (the top number) by seven points. Six weeks of brish walking and/or aerobic dance lowered systolic pressure an average of 8.4 points. Deborah Rohm Young, PhD, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore |
