If You're Moody, Try Changing Your Diet

A sugary breakfast can lead to midmorning slump, and a baked potato can lead to an afternoon boost, nutritionists say, exemplifying the fact that food plays a role in mood swings.

Believe it or not, eating a chocolate candy bar for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up can make you feel more irritable and tired, says Dr. Ken Goodrich, an assistant professor of medicine a Baylor. "High carbohydrate foods like potatoes can make you feel more relaxed."

Goodrich offers some mood-mending tips:

Eat a breakfast high in protein, such as a muffin with yogurt and juice.

Eat low-fat lunch foods like tuna, chicken breasts or salads.

Eat relaxing dinners like carbohydrate-rich pasta, chicken breast and salads.
