Super Low-Fat DietsSuper Low-Fat Diets are not always beneficial. Many health experts now recommend a diet in which 30% of daily calories come from fat. But some people are getting on 10% to 15% of their calories from fat. Such diets can be beneficial to heart patients and individuals at risk for heart disease. For other people, however, the diets elevate heart attack risk by raising levels of triglycerides and lowering levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. Extreme diets should be adopted only under medical supervision. Ronald Krass, MD, Lawerence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley, California |
