What are NutriSeeds™?
NutriSeeds are Chia Seeds, the tiny black and white seeds of the Salvia Hispanica L., or Chia plant. The only real difference between the black and white seeds is their color, plus the black seeds tend to have slightly higher antioxidant activity. Otherwise, the seeds are virtually identical. Chia seeds are easily digestible, do not need to be ground down before consumption, can be consumed in a variety of ways, and can be stored for long periods of time without losing potency, due to the high concentration of natural antioxidants. There are no known allergies to Chia seeds and they can be enjoyed by just about anyone, regardless of age.
The History of Chia Seeds
For centuries, the Aztec, Mayan, and other South American cultures used Chia seeds as a source of energy, strength, nourishment & health. Chia seeds were an important and majorly cultivated crop due to their substantial nutritional value and ability to provide individuals with sustained energy and endurance over long periods of time. In fact, in the Mayan language, the word “chia” means strength, and Chia seeds were widely known as “running food” because a single handful of seeds could sustain individuals and provide enough stamina for a full 24 hours during extended journeys. Chia seeds were basically forgotten for hundreds of years after being almost completely wiped out by Spanish conquistadors, but a recent “rediscovery” of these amazing seeds have brought them back into the forefront of nutrition.
