The DHA belong to a class of nutrients called essential fatty acids (EFAs). It is an omega-3 fatty acid that is found in marine fish oils. Because the brain consists of 60% fat, DHA is essential for brain development and function. DHA is the building block of human brain tissue and the primary fatty acid in the gray matter of the brain. The average American diet is very low in DHA because of a decline in consumption of sources containing DHA, such as fish.
* Low levels of DHA may cause certain behavioral and neurological conditions such as Alzheimer’s, depression, memory loss and Attention Deficit Disorder
* DHA supplementation has been shown to be useful in the management of autoimmune disorders
* DHA has been shown to reduce levels of high blood triglycerides which are linked to heart disease
* DHA appears to also be essential for normal visual and neurological development in infants
